B-Smart Cycle is identifying the next generation of cyclist

B/SMART CYCLE

Our outreach program is entitled B Smart Cycle, designed as an entry-level comprehensive cycling training program designed to introduce underrepresented youth to the Olympic-level sport of Track Cycling.

The program provides youth with a critical link to premiere coaching, track bikes, bike equipment, staff, and state-of-the-art Velodrome facilities at the VELO Sports Center, Carson, California. The goal is to cultivate the next generation of competitive and non-competitive cyclists.

Beyond Cycling

Through our educational partnership with U.C.L.A. project X-Treme and tech company partner Zwift, we seek to provide students exposure to 21st-century educational opportunities such as; eGaming, App development, and S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math). We introduce under-represented students to Cycling and healthy lifestyles, but also we seek to promote student empowerment in education and enhance individual self-esteem.

Direct Support

Since our founding in 2010, we actively outreach to inner-city youth with programs and initiatives that have impacted hundreds of students from several local area schools. From the direct donation of Band Instruments to Compton Unified School District and Crenshaw High School to making needed Basketball equipment donations to Charles R. Drew Medical Magnet H.S., Girls Basketball Team.

Creative Opportunities

Working in conjunction with Zwift in 2019, the Bahati Foundation launched its first 'Teen Hacking Health Hackathon' where High school students create apps and ideas around teen health issues as part of the Motion Equals Healthy Initiative.

Through a partnership with UCLA X-Treme Interactive Initiative, the Bahati Foundation provides students from CUSD and LAUSD access to field trips to the campus at UCLA for a day of STEM and STREAM activities and exposure.

ZWIFT Partnership

The Bahati Foundation continues its alliance partnership with Zwift to provide access to S.T.R.E.A.M. education through fun and fitness cycling activities. The foundation is developing a Zwift HQ initiative allowing participating students to spend a day at the Zwift Headquarters in downtown Long Beach, California.

ON AND OFF THE BIKE

In 2018 we launched our first Annual Bike Giveaway that provides support in conjunction with our alliance partner, Giant Bicycles. Each year through our Adopt-A-School outreach, we select students from our footprint in local schools. Students have access to cycling as well as other educational opportunities. We’ve provided over 100 youth of the Los Angeles School District, Compton Unified School District, and other private schools in the L.A. area with new bikes and the mobility and confidence that comes with them.

Annual Bike Giveaways

Adopt-A-School Program is designed to engage community-based public and private schools to form a partnership with our foundation. Enhance the physical fitness and overall health awareness of participating middle school-age students. The program seeks to develop partnerships between the Compton Unified School District (CUSD) and corporate alliance partners to support providing Cycling as a healthy lifestyle and Fitness option.

B/SMART CYCLE

The B/Smart Cycle program's mission is to provide inner-city students access to professional coaching, world-class track facilities, track bikes, and training in the Olympic-level sport of Velodrome cycling.

Cycling club pilot program

In 2017 through a pilot program in conjunction with Verbum Dei High School in Watts, California, we created the Bahati Student Cycling Club (BSCC) that provided students with track cycling certification and hands-on training at the Velodrome, California State University Dominguez Hills Carson, California. Currently, the foundation has established Bahati Student Cycling Clubs at selected schools in Compton Unified School District elementary and high schools.
