Motion Equals Healthy: Bahati Foundation Expands Impact in Harlem with Annual Bike Giveaway

The Bahati Foundation returned to Harlem for its 3rd Annual Motion Equals Healthy Bike Giveaway & Fun Ride, deepening its commitment to youth wellness, mobility, and opportunity. Held at Marcus Garvey Park on June 15, the event coincided with the iconic Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic, creating an electric weekend of community celebration and cycling empowerment.

Pedaling Toward Equity

Through a powerful collaboration with Friends of the Children New York, Black Girls Do Bike NYC, and Unity Sports Productions, the Bahati Foundation donated 20 brand-new Giant bicycles and helmets to student scholars. These bikes will be stored at the Friends of the Children Harlem campus and used in youth programming led by alliance partner Black Girls Do Bike NYC—ensuring long-term access to cycling, fitness, and mentorship.

As we celebrate 15 years of providing underrepresented youth with access to Play Equity, we’re not just giving away bikes—we’re building infrastructure.
— Rahsaan Bahati, Founder and President of the Bahati Foundation.

An Event Rooted in Community

The 2025 event brought together a vibrant cross-section of local and national partners, including:

  • Friends of the Children New York – Long-term mentorship for youth facing systemic obstacles

  • Black Girls Do Bike NYC – Advocating for cycling inclusivity for women and girls of color

  • SRAM and Giant / Liv Bicycles USA – Generous sponsors providing the bicycles and support

  • Unity Sports Productions – Champions of equity-driven athletic events like the Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic

The day included the newly launched Motion Equals Healthy Bike Clinic, where families received hands-on bike safety instruction and joined in a celebratory ride around the park’s racecourse. This interactive component emphasized the joy—and the necessity—of safe, active play in public spaces.

Through our B Smart Student Cycle Program, we’re creating sustainable pathways to health, learning, and opportunity.
— Rahsaan Bahati, Founder and President of the Bahati Foundation

Beyond the Bike: A Vision for 2028

As Los Angeles gears up to host the 2028 Olympic Games, the Bahati Foundation continues building momentum through its Motion Equals Healthy – Road to LA28 initiative. This campaign uses sport as a catalyst to help inner-city youth broaden their horizons and dream bigger—both on and off the bike.

Stay connected with the Bahati Foundation and our partners as we continue transforming lives, one ride at a time.
